NEW! The Crossing’s Justice Advocacy & Spirituality Collaborative

Announcing

The Crossing’s Justice Advocacy & Spirituality Collaborative at UW

In September 2023 The Crossing launched a new justice advocacy leadership program. Students who have a passion for learning about and doing advocacy work for a multitude of justice issues are invited to inquire. The Crossing is a faith-based, student led non-profit open to students of all faiths and spiritualities, inclusive of persons without any religious affiliation or specific religious beliefs. The Crossing encourages all students regardless of religious beliefs to explore the inspiring experience of impactful advocacy.

Throughout history many prophetic justice leaders, reformers, and community change makers have acted from a spiritual or faith center. At the Crossing students of different faith traditions find intersection in justice work. From Jesus to Ghandi, Muhammad to Malcolm X, or Maimonides to Harriet Tubman, human rights have found a voice through faith. At The Crossing, meaningful work is available to all students as they together engage issues of food insecurity, affordable housing, LGBTQ+ inclusion, incarceration reform and many other justice concerns (see below).

The Crossing provides facility spaces, financial support, event resources, advocacy trainings, mentorship, and a network of committed students for impacting the campus and community with justice. Interested undergraduate and graduate students can contact Rev. Michael Burch at burch.director@crossingministries.org

If you are eager for meaningful justice work, excited to learn from student peers and local community organizers, and want to develop your leadership skill set, please let us hear from you! We have stipend opportunities for those willing to invest at least 5-6 hours per week and who have a personal history of commitment to the issue.
